Since completing emergency medicine residency and a teaching fellowship, Dr. Mattu has rapidly become one of the leading educators in emergency medicine in topics pertaining to emergency cardiology and geriatric emergency medicine. He has authored or edited four textbooks pertaining to high-risk emergency medicine and emergency electrocardiography. Additionally, he is the first emergency physician to serve as primary Guest Editor for volumes of Cardiology Clinics and Clinics in Geriatric Medicine, and he is the Consulting Editor for Emergency Medicine Clinics of North America. Dr. Mattu is a frequent speaker on the national and international CME circuit and has been invited to lecture in more than 10 countries on topics pertaining to emergency cardiology and geriatric emergency medicine.  He has been a featured speaker for Audio-Digest Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medicine Reviews and Perspectives (EMRAP).

Dr. Mattu has received more than a dozen teaching awards, including national teaching awards from ACEP and AAEM, and in 2000 he was selected as Teacher of the Year from among the entire faculty of the University of Maryland at Baltimore. He had the distinction of being named Residency Director of the Year in 2006 by the AAEM Resident and Student Association. In addition, Dr. Mattu had the honor of receiving the 2006 ACEP Rookie Of The Year and Outstanding Speaker Of The Year awards, and in 2007 the Maryland Chapter of ACEP named him the Maryland State Emergency Physician of the Year.
